My guess is the problem is not at the source, but in the buffering on the playback (of streaming video and audio) at the playback computer. The video and audio are buffered separately, and the number of seconds of storage required to be in the buffer before playback resumes is not the same for audio and video. Just speculation, however. I have no idea how it actually works.
