I'm surprised you think no one has complained about this.  Even on this
list, it has been mentioned at least a dozen times.

Gmail figures it like this:
1.  You don't need both copies of the message - a waste of space.
2.  Your message will show up as part of a conversation for any email list
you send to.  Isn't that what you care about most?
