Very few people buy a Windows computer because they want to. It is not a
free choice in a free market. Therefore evaluations need to be made with
that in mind.

That's not true. It is a free choice and a free market but most people are
not equipped to make an informed choice. How many people do you
know who ask your advice on what to buy? Probably more than a few
because you are a "computer guy."

But these are hard questions to answer because the people asking the
questions aren't well informed enough to frame them properly.

I got a question today with regard to a wireless router configuration
that gave me no information about the router, no information about
what systems were being used, and no information about what the
user intended to do.

This isn't uncommon. I can't shoot the trouble without the details.

I replied to the question with advice that they solicit professional services.

I can't seek pay for activities that compete with services my company
offers. I am willing to offer free advice, and I left a voice mail message
with my name and telephone number.

Sometimes Windows is the appropriate solution, as mike says if you
are a gamer there is no substitute.

Certainly I am willing to consider any platform or OS if it can fulfill
my needs.
