Jordan,
I don't know where my brother got Norton. I feel the same way as you do and haven't used it since OS 10.1/10.2. I will talk with about the printer driver, because I believe that he does have a Canon printer.

What do you think Norton is doing for you? Norton is notoriously quirky. The first thing I would do is get rid of Norton and all vestiges of it. Then restart, and reinstall Appleworks.
Then let us know if there is still a problem.

My wife still uses Appleworks and had a problem with it recently when she tried to print something. It was acting just as you describe. I could not really nail down the problem, but it must have had to do with its relationship to the printer driver. When I installed a new printer driver (Canon) the problem cleared up.

My brother is having a problem with his Appleworks program. He is running it on an eMac with OS 10.3.9. The problem may have started after he "tried to fix somethings with Norton."
