Please stop perpetuating a myth.
I am typing this from a mini PC that I got in early November.
I run Office 07 and a lot of other stuff on this machine.
My son has an ASUS netbook and plays world of warcraft on it.
It has fit all my normal stuff on it, and runs perfectly normal. The
only thing I did was bump it up to 2 GB of ram.
My other son also has one and runs all his stuff on it. He likes to
visit Japanese anime sties and stuff like that and also does all his
college homework on it.
What I like about it, is it's portability. I can take it just about
anywhere I want. It has given me no difficulty at all.
Two of us are running XP and the third is running Win 7 home
premium. I am the only one running 2 GB of memory the Win 7 Machine
is running 1 GB (After Christmas it will be 2.)
They do not run sluggishly at all.
The reason it might seem sluggish is that it is only a 1.6 Mhz
chip. It is not a 2 Ghz, and it is not a dual core. But to me it is
super great.
The only thing I dislike is a smaller keyboard (missing some standard
keys) but it fits my hand just fine.
So they are pretty versatile little machines.

These $300 'netbooks' are very popular this Christmas because of
their price and portability, but beware.. this is a VERY
underpowered machine for today's internet environment. Once you
load the necessary virus protection software, your netbook will
become somewhat sluggish. If you try to run several powerful
programs together, it will be even slower. I recommend these
machines only for people who want to have a Windows computing
environment to carry with them everywhere they go. Don't load it
down with unnecessary programs or utilities, and you should get a
few years of good service from them. By nature, they will have a
shorter lifespan then larger computers, since they are more likely
to be dropped or banged up.
Good luck to you Gail!
