Someone I know was having all sorts of problems with her new Toshiba laptop running Vista. Sometimes it would run feebly, sometimes it would not even start up. She was absolutely positive that her computer was seriously infected. No amount of wiping the drive and reinstalling the OS cleared up anything, so she called in the geek squad. They fixed the problem, charged her a bunch of money, and told her what was causing the problem. Too little RAM. The amount of RAM that came with the laptop, that also came with Vista installed, was insufficient to allow the machine to boot up upon turning it on much of the time. How can a computer even be allowed to be sold at MicroCenter if it does not have sufficient RAM to allow for booting up?
