Geek squads like to sell things and services.

However if I remember correctly many of the first machines sold "Vista Ready" were not really. MS woefully under reported the need for RAM on these first machines and I think they started bumping up the RAM at this point.

Like I said I bought my sons first laptop in Dec. 07 and it came with 3 GB of RAM.

It came with Vista home basic.

crashes.  All I know is that the "geek squad" that worked on it said

The computer is now apparently running okay, so I guess the lack of
RAM was the problem.
