Shortly but surely, there it was, XFree crapped out on me. As soon as I sent the last message... Maybe it has something to do with X running an application that's being piped over SSH (run remotely?)? What happens is that the screen starts to display all kinds of widgets, and the are all over the place. After I rebooted (i managed to find the gnome foot, and then logout, and reboot...) things were back to normal. Surprisingly, since before when that happen the screen stood all garble (with all kind of crazy stuff, even though the cursor was fine, but the stuff in the background and GDM itself, or KDM, were messed up). That's why I was thinking it was a library. These problems used to go away after rebooting in MacOS 9 and coming back to linux... some people reported this before.
