just add "alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-cs4236" instead of indirect alias in
/etc/modules.conf and remove your sound related entries from /etc/modules

description:
This applies to MDK 9.1 beta 3.

System: Dell Precision Workstation 610 MT, dual Pentium II-450MHz with on-board
Crystal sound card. MDK 9.1-B3 does not detect any sound card at all here.
Trying with other Linux distros:

RedHat 8.0: Kudzu finds "new hardware" - CS4236B on first boot after
installation. I didn't get it to work with KDE, though.

SuSE 8.1 Live-Eval (running from demo CD only): finds "new hardware" - Crystal
Multimedia audio controller after logging in on KDE. No sound server connected
to it, though.

Apparently, this sound card has worked on Mandrake distros before, see:

Crystal Semiconductor is owned by Cirrus Logic. Announcement of use of their
chips by Dell here: http://www-test.cirrus.com/en/press/releases/P105.html
