------- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-20-09 20:59 ------- Thanks, Danny! Yes, it should definitely be snd-cs4236 - after doing some more searching on the web and some more thinking and experimenting, I now hear the sound of the CS4236B (well, actually the KDE startup sound) in my ears! The /etc/modules.conf that _works_ now contains the following: # --- ALSA configuration alias char-major-116 snd alias char-major-14 soundcore alias snd-card-0 snd-cs4236 # --- OSS compatibility alias snd-slot-0 snd-card-0 alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss # --- Options options snd_index=0 snd_port=0x534 \ snd_cport=0x210 snd_mpu_port=0x220 snd_fm_port=0x388 \ snd_irq=5 snd_mpu_irq=7 snd_dma1=1 I'm not sure which package this information should go into - whether ldetect-lst, snd-config, alsa-utils or all three? -- Configure bugmail: http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. ------- Reminder: ------- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: UNCONFIRMED creation_date: description: This applies to MDK 9.1 beta 3. System: Dell Precision Workstation 610 MT, dual Pentium II-450MHz with on-board Crystal sound card. MDK 9.1-B3 does not detect any sound card at all here. Trying with other Linux distros: RedHat 8.0: Kudzu finds "new hardware" - CS4236B on first boot after installation. I didn't get it to work with KDE, though. SuSE 8.1 Live-Eval (running from demo CD only): finds "new hardware" - Crystal Multimedia audio controller after logging in on KDE. No sound server connected to it, though. Apparently, this sound card has worked on Mandrake distros before, see: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/Linux/Q_11422758.html Crystal Semiconductor is owned by Cirrus Logic. Announcement of use of their chips by Dell here: http://www-test.cirrus.com/en/press/releases/P105.html
