------- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-21-09 20:20 -------

as for /etc/isapnp.conf: this was neeed in the old days when one has
to manually configure isa pnp sound cards.

the alsa project feed the kernel with a better isa plug & play layer
that allocate ressources automatically.

as for snd-cs4236/snd-card-cs4236, this is a cut&past from web issue
(in the old days, alsa modules were named snd-card-XYZ and are now
named snd-XYZ). programs are ok regarding this issue:

- as we do not probe for isa pnp cards,ldetect-lst is not a problem.

- alsaconf from alsa-utils seems to be ok regarding this (from code
reviewing, i have no isa card to test)

- snd-config is not aware of alsa

description:
This applies to MDK 9.1 beta 3.

System: Dell Precision Workstation 610 MT, dual Pentium II-450MHz with on-board
Crystal sound card. MDK 9.1-B3 does not detect any sound card at all here.
Trying with other Linux distros:

RedHat 8.0: Kudzu finds "new hardware" - CS4236B on first boot after
installation. I didn't get it to work with KDE, though.

SuSE 8.1 Live-Eval (running from demo CD only): finds "new hardware" - Crystal
Multimedia audio controller after logging in on KDE. No sound server connected
to it, though.

Apparently, this sound card has worked on Mandrake distros before, see:

chips by Dell here: http://www-test.cirrus.com/en/press/releases/P105.html
