There most certainly was.  The 7.2b3 iso images were produced by
Warly about a month after the tree split.

The truth in these matters can only be authoritativly gained by
examining the mirror file structure, which speaks well for the
subject.  Mandrake has no reputation for pre-announcing what it plans
to do.

Have a look at the date on the sunsite.uio.no primary mirror 7.2beta
directory: Tuesday September 5.  Have a look at the dates on the 7.2
iso images at:

ftp://ftp.free.fr/pub/Distributions_Linux/Mandrake-iso/

if you can get in (unfortunately, I cannot).
