I can understand that a user that has found and established a stable Linux 
environment, wants to keep that intact.

Let us assume that this environment is Mandrake 7.2.

What is asked for then, to my  understanding, is that  the company Mandrake 
should furnish upgrades to every asked for package based on Mdk 7.2.

There is a more modern variant 8.0, that is updated, and which can be bought 
from Mandrake,  that is your answer or reply to:

Who is going to pay for those programmers that has to keep Mdk 7.2 up-to-date?
