Maybe it's waaay too late to do it for 8.2, but I second the motion.

Perhaps a Laptop install option (or a specialized laptop version of the
distro...).  Not as many servers (who runs MySQL or bind on a laptop?)
in this version, for instance.

Maybe a database could be built of native resolutions that different
laptop LCDs have, so users could just select their laptop from the list
and get X (maybe even framebuffer console mode, too) configured to look
great out of the gate.

As I said, almost definitely too late for 8.2, but an option for a
post-8.2 version (9.0?)  Or how's this (if a separate version is
created): sometime over the summer, release 8.2 Portable Edition.

If Mandrake can become the best distro for laptops, that can only help
it's popularity on the desktop, imho.
