I'm using a 3com 3c905tx. Any 3com NIC should just plain work. No extraneous configuration necesary. Are you perhaps using a static IP? If so you may not have your IP and subnet mask set properly. If you're using DHCP, make sure you're specifying it in the nic configuration.
