Defrosting meat in hot water is also dangerous for the same reasons. I
know, I know. It hasn't ever made you sick before. I was 63 years old
before beef made me sick and my friend defrosted it in hot water, cooked it
thoroughly, and all 4 of us were sick. Now I am ever so much more careful
with meat.

yes, this is true.
I usually let it sit in hot water for a bit,then I will marinade it, and
then place it in the crockpot.
I will take it out of the freezer the night before, and place it in the
fridge, then let it finish defrost in hot water.

NEVER, i repeat NEVER cook a frozen piece of meat in a slow cooker. The
temperature of the cooker is not high enough to cook it quickly and you
could end up with nasty bacteria that yu can't taste, but will sure make
you sick.
