Well they have various sizes. Mine takes the large burner on the stove. Yes they can smoke up the house. When you put the chops or what you want to smoke in the smoker you shut the lid except for a small opening. When you smell a whisp of smoke you shut the lid all the way. It is actually simple but I don't like it for every day smoking but in the winter time when there are 15 to 18 inches of snow on the ground you can still have that smoked burger, steak or chop. Walt
