I would think that, since crock pot temperatures can vary, and they cook so
slowly, the recipe gives an estimation of cooking time. As for when to add
the pasta, as it says, add it 30 minutes before you plan to remove the stuff
from the pot. If you plan to cook it for 8 hours, add the pasta after 7 and
a half hours.
Concerning cooking times, I have seen recipes for smoking meats that say to
smoke it for 5 to 6 hours. Same idea.
