Hi Will, You always have the option of asking someone to spread the butter for you. However, here is what I do, or try to do (grin).
First, hold the packet in your hand for a while to warm it up. Then, open the packet. If it is a foil wrapped pack, open it over your bread and a plate. Dump out the butter as close to the center as possible. If it is a plastic pack, use your knife or spoon to clean out the packet on your bread as before. Then, take your knife or the back of a spoon and start on the butter. Gently spread to one edge of the bread, then go back to the middle and spread to the opposite edge. Then turn your bread 1/4 turn and repeat the process. If you are using a knife, lay it flat with a very, very slight angle and pull it all the way across the bread after you have made the 1/4 turn. It may not be perfect, but you will get better. Hope that helps. I like going to a place to eat close to school, and when I order a certain dish, it comes with bread. In addition to the bread, I also get a small plate with some wrapped packets of butter. How do you guys deal with buttering bread using those packets? I'm not a good spreader, but how should I handle using one of these packets for one or two pieces of bread? Any techniques would be appreciated.
