Thanks to all who responded to my questions about oil temps. I have
learned
a few things. It sounds as though I really need not worry about summer
temps as long as they don't get much higher than the 205 or so I have seen
on 90 degree days. With a top of 225 there is still plenty of leeway. I
read once that the correct oil temps in a Coupe should be the ambient temp
plus 100 degrees. That would put mine about 15 degrees high, but no sweat
I
guess if it stays well short of red line. I will also try the suggestion
that I use single wt oil, since I have been using 20-50. I agree that
multi-vis is messy, by the way. I have a whole drawer full of white socks
with oil spots on them as a result of dripping when checking my oil. One
respondent sent me an e-mail picture of the front of his coupe showing a
baffle plate for the winter. Since it was a later model with a different
nosebowl, I can't duplicate it but I see how it works. Actually, as
another
respondent suggested, it may not be all that important to get the temp up
near 180 in the winter. My mechanic says that while the oil temp gauge
shows what it is in the sump, the oil gets considerably hotter as it runs
through the engine and thus will boil off any moisture. Thanks again to
all
who commented. This is a great way to get feedback. Thanks to those who
set up the site. Bill McElwee
