The only problem I've ever had with the Stromberg is I once got some dirt into the mixture circuit. I keep my mixture fully functional, it works just fine and is quite effective at decreasing fuel consumption on a cross country. The only thing it will not do is shut down the engine by leaning it out (not designed to) but make no mistake it will lean the engine below 5,000 ft. The reason it was wired full rich by many is they did not fly above 5,000 ft which is where Continental recommends beginning to lean. Below 5,000 ft leaning improperly can result in engine damage quite fast. Not a problem if you pay attention though
