Jeff: Welcome to the Coupers List. I think you will find it informative
I'll put my oar in the water on the approach speed subject. I normally fly my Coupe (Forney) at 75 MPH on final but never slower than 70. 75 is a very comfortable approach speed in my airplane. In very windy or gusty conditions I will increase the airspeed to suit the conditions. I normally carry some power until crossing the threshold. During a short field approach I would target 70 for the final approach. The variations in approach speeds recommended by others could be a result of differences and/or inaccuracies in the different airspeed indicators. If you are floating half way down the field using 80, it would be an indication the speed is to high. You might try reducing the airspeed 2 MPH increments from 80 until you find one that is best for your airplane. I feel that anything below 70 is to slow for most pilots and you are beginning to move into the high sink rate area. ---------- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Approach speeds > Date: Sunday, March 15, 1998 12:46 AM > > Hello Coupers! > > I am new to this list, and I tried to post this question once > before.
