Jan, I used the $99.00 strobe on the belly with a 337. Had all white lens at first, but then changed to a 1/3 red and 2/3 white as I would get a distracting bounce off the prop at night. I would definitely not recommend placing on top of the fuselage. The strobe comes with a decal reminding you to turn if off in the clouds. While not a good as the wingtip and tail strobes, it sure is a lot cheaper and a good deal of protection than flying without one!
