And the corollary of that is this: Please, please, please, if you have not done so, think seriously about having your Ercoupe fitted with 4-point shoulder straps. Empirical evidence suggests that more than one of our colleagues has had his or her brain-pan smashed in what would otherwise have been a walk-away crash. Including the gent who perished on the way back from last EOC convention. It's a small plane, and the likelihood of hitting that panel is high. Remember, that before Ralph Nader, people used to die regularly in minor car accidents. That was the case in 1946. They also used to die in minor plane accidents. Seriously, if you don't have shoulder harnesses, maybe you should be wearing a crash helmet. Military pilots do! But you really need those harnesses. Less than a week ago, I damn near joined the 'Ercoupe glider club.' When I realized that I had (after finding most of the engine oil on N99387's belly) I was glad that I held out for the shoulder harnesses. My passenger and I would have been much better off on a botched corn-field landing than we would have been in their absence. Buy Pete Smoler's drawings, get the 337 approved, and do something to extend your life. Greg P.S.: all indications are that N99387's problem was not a busted ring as feared but rather a bunch of frozen condensation in the oil/air separator which caused the engine to 'breathe' via the oil return line, instead of the breather. Thus it exhaled oil, instead of air. We seem to have gotten away without hurting anything. ==^================================================================ This email was sent to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] EASY UNSUBSCRIBE click here: http://topica.com/u/?aVxiLm.aVzvvT Or send an email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] T O P I C A -- Register now to manage your mail! http://www.topica.com/partner/tag02/register ==^================================================================
