That's why you want Smoler's lash-up, and not one of the many variations that attach some sort of plate to the fuselage skin in the baggage area. Smoler's goes back through 2 frames (stations) into the tail-cone. The pull is on a length of rod which is screwed to both frames in turn, and is not in shear, but rather direct. You'd have to collapse the fuselage half way back to the stabilizer for it to let go. Even if that happened, it would keep you from bouncing off the panel on initial impact, in all likelihood. It's a good arrangement.
