Gawd, you're right it is the axle.  My memory ain't what it used to be.
By the by,
if that baby's leaking a quart every three hours, that's a pretty serious
leak. Only
one thing that'll fix a leak that big.  Duck tape!!  Don't try the
sloshing
compound, I had that in my gas tank, and it don't work there, what makes
you think
it'd work in an engine.
