Folks, There is a service bulletin on the Alons to modify the fuel system to avoid potential vapor lock problems. This may be the problem that John Wright was talking about. I have heard of a few instances of Alon engines quiting due to vapor lock. The guy that I bought mine back from had it happen to him.
Luckily he was able to put it back down on the remaining runway. He then had the modifications described in the service bulletin done on the plane. I flew this same plane for about 300 hours before the mods were done ( when I owned it 15 years ago) but I never had any problem with vapor lock. I don't know if he had the vapor lock with auto fuel or avgas. The plane is STC'd for auto gas, but I never use it. Did anyone happen to get a tape recording of the Coupe forum at Sun n Fun??
