Ed, You are lucky to have the Alon style pedals.  My  Ercoupe has the
nosewheel hooked to the ailerons.  The nosewheel steering does not work as
well when taking off or landing as with coupled controls and the pedals
are
just spongy.  I often find that if there is a crosswind, when I push down
the pedal to correct for the Ercoupe's amazing tendency to weathervane, I
must be pushing too much pedal as I lift off and am flying in a slip with
the wheel turned opposite the pedal.  Once or twice I have accidentally
gone
to the stop with the pedal and enough opposite yoke to keep it straight on
the runway without realizing what I was doing.  They should have hooked
the
nosewheel to the pedals when they put in pedals.  It is really too much
trouble having things all mixed up like that.  Glen Ward
