Geez, Ellis!
Ya got it home. Please remember one of Woods Wonderous Rules:
"The most dangerious flight of the year is the first one after an annual."
I tend to do "owner assisted" annuals just to avoid what happened to
you.
It is correct that the insurance has gone up, but it is not due to bad
maintenance. Yeah, that causes wrecks, but every one taking their money
out to put it in the "hot" stock market, makes us aviators compete for
funds.
Back to topic. Have an "old time `couper" do a pre-flight with you -
preferrably
your next one. Just follow along, and try to absorb the wisdom. One of
the
John Wrights would be great if you are in Illinois. Syd Cohen in
Wisconsen
is also super. Hell, even I think I could spot bad ailerons... The mags
may be
more of a challenge. I am not an A&P, nor do I play one on TV.
But please be careful up there. We are all interested in how you come
out.
        Percy in Portland
