I must be from the old school.  Never a flight goes by that I haven't
checked both wing tanks and the
gascolator.  I was taught that you don't have any other option.  If you're
going to fly, you check the
fuel.  But, I don't know why anyone would drain a full pint out unless
water or contamination shows up.
I, at times, do drain several small samples, from each drain, but at most
I will drain 4-5 oz.  Perhaps
it's psychological.  Kinda like a urine sample.  Once you start, you can't
stop until the whole thing is
full.
