----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]---- To the guy looking to replace his gascolator - I replaced mine last fall with the ACS unit which you can get from Skyport, Wag-Aero, Aircraft Spruce, etc. It costs about $80 and has been great. The ACS unit is a perfect fit! You will have to order a 1/4" NPT plug to go in the primer supply port in the top, and you should drill the plug for safety wire if it isn't drilled already (mine wasn't.) Also check the Curtiss drain valve to make sure it is tight. I have some wire wrapped around mine just to be sure. Mount the gascolator at an angle so that when you drain it, the drain valve is at the bottom. If you mount it straight up and down the drain valve won't drain the gunk out of the bottom as it is slightly in the side of the bowl. After you tighten the bail nut, turn on the gas, grab the bowl, and wiggle it as it can look tight, but then you shift the bowl a bit and it pours out because it's still too loose. Twist a lot of safety wire around the whole bowl and bale in case one of the bale wires break. You might need to file a 337 but the IA here was not real interested in doing so. He thought told me to put it on as nobody would ever know the difference, and probably 9 out of 10 he's right, but that was not really the best advice. Just have the gascolator put on at the next annual when your IA is handy. Glen Ward
