If you want to go on the cheaper side, it seems as if the best bet is to find a local guy in your part of the country, where labor rates are relatively low. Seems like some guys like to overhaul engines, some don't. Where are the local Cub pilots getting their C65s done? Check with your EAA chapter. When I thought 06H might need an engine, I looked around and talked to the guy here (TAP ad) CONTINENTAL C85-8, C90-8 & now O-200-8 engines are available with a new STC. Your -12 can become a -8 from C75 now through O-200. Call Don's Dream Machines for information: 770, 412-8885. tf I was quite impressed by the gentleman. Baby Continentals are what they do, what they like to do, and what they do well. Not as cheap as some, not as expensive as the Penn Yan, et. al. I have no direct experience other than saying that in talking to him he seems like the kind of guy I'd like to deal with, and to fly behind his work, because he understands the issues with those old engines in today's environment and deals with them well. By the way, much of the expense is due to a) cost of getting the cases to pass muster and b) near inevitability of needing a new crank, which are hard to come by.
