It does seem like alot, but last year I had a
160 HP Lyc. in a Musketeer seize up just after take-off, and I crashed into the
trees. Trashed the plane, got a few scars to remind me, and decided that I
was going to do all I could to ensure that it didn't happen to me again, so if
I'm going to fly, I had to do the overhaul.
Louie
That is what he told me today when I called,
around $6500. Base price is $4100 but I get the feeling that they
never do one for that. That is a pretty good deal as far as overhauls
go, I guess. Still seems like a lot. Glen Ward
I had my C-85 overhauled by Kline last
May. He quoted me a price of $4500, but when all was said and
done, I wrote a check for $6300. I delivered it, and picked it up,
so there were no shipping charges.
I needed a new (rebuilt) mag, the case
had to be reworked due to a spun cam shaft bearing, and numerous other
"ADD-ONS".
My cylinders were reworked some (weld
repairs, chroming, etc.) but he reused mine.
I think that he did a good job, I have good oil
pressure and compressions are up. I know of two other engines that
he worked on that had some questions raised about, and he did whatever
was required to answer those questions, even though it was not his
responsibility. That was the biggest reason that I had him do
mine, and I'm glad that I did.

Hi all,
I have decided to avert disaster and get my engine
overhauled, sometime before the end of the year. Not flying
again until I do. Where is a good place that is relatively
low-priced? It seems like I often hear about people who just
got some IA to do it, and the 2 times mine has been done it was that
way. Is this still done or is it neccesary to send it halfway
across the country to a shop? Two places in TradeAPlane that
looked attractive were Kline and St. Louis, does anybody know
anything about them? I am more familiar with places like
Mattituck and PennYan but their prices were truly incredible, around
$12,000. At least it has recent cylinders so I won't need
those. Glen Ward __________________________________________________
