But the trim tabs could be illegal none the less.
  There are TWO parts to being *airworthy*
 a) {minor part} safe to fly
 b) {by far the larger} conforms to type as certified and as amended by 
    337, STC, etc.
It is the second that usually makes a plane un-airworthy, voids insurance
and so on.  Have the tabs been properly paper trailed?

  And in this regard but on another recent thread.  Just consider how much
money Bill Gates would have if he had to go through a government agency
for
approval before he changed a single branch instruction in any of his 
programs.  That, IMHO, is the real reason that his estate will be bigger
than Fred Weicks was.
