Really? Are you *sure* you're using courier-imap and not some other IMAP
server? I say this because:
(1) Courier-imap folders are Maildirs in their own right; they must be
directories not files
(2) Only directories whose name begins with a period are treated as folders
So, please give a proper description of the problem.
Firstly, what exact version of courier-imap are you running? Under what OS?
Secondly, show a transcript of an IMAP session to your server, i.e.
script imap.log
telnet x.x.x.x 143
a login username password
and a 'list' command which shows the files being interpreted as folders.
Thirdly, show an ls -lR of the Maildir in question.
