My understanding was that sqwebmail used direct access through it's setuid access to read the Maildirs directly, thereby reducing server and localloop network load.
It should be faster and run better for more users on a machine I think. Also, it's compiled C code, and that should count for something speed and resource wise as well... That being said, I too had to use something that had a few extra bells and whistles for users who liked them - though there are MANY cool things about sqwebmail (enough that it's on my list to try merging the best of both worlds at some point) Anyone else have comment?
