You don't need prospertity to be imperialist (Portugal was a poor country,
f.ex.). You don't need to have a good financial position to be imperialist either
(the US has a very bad one, f.ex.).

Maybe you could argue that about Indonesia, but how was Russia torn apart
from the outside? At the time of the Perestroyka (sorry for the spelling) it was
powerful enough to destroy the whole world, isn't it?
