It depends on what do you define as "imperialist". Imperialism is not
an attribute of individual countries, IMHO, but of the whole global
system. Imperialism is the mechanism by which those countries that
succesfully completed their national revolutions and managed to
organize self-centered capitalist economies extract surplus value
from the rest of humankind. Indonesia does not belong to that club,
it has never had. Whenever an imperialist country according to the
definition above begins to rant against "imperialism" of a large, but
subordinate country, then we are facing an aggression by the
imperialist country to the subordinate one.

There is no "plage on both houses" here. Let us assume that Indonesia
is a perverted country with the intention to transform the whole of
the islands' economy into an integrated network operating with a
center of gravity in Java, that they are trying to override local
traditions and languages for the benefit of the Javanese bourgeoisie,
that they are trying to suck capital from Indonesian workers to
reinvest it within Java and where that Indonesian repugnant
bourgeoisie actually desires, within Indonesia. Let us assume this, I
said, not that I believe that. In such a case, what we are
confronting is simply the attempt by the Javanese bourgeoisie to
perform the same tasks that were performed in Western Europe three or
four centuries ago. Not to speak of the military erradication of
Languedoc by the Languedoil, by the way. This movement implies to
curtail the ability of central, imperialist bourgeoisies, to extract
surplus value and, thus, is -funnily enough- anti-imperialist!

I know the story well. One of the reasons for the 1955 coup d'etat in
Argentina and for the complot that led the Brazilian President
Getlio Vargas to suicide in 1954 was, precisely, that both countries
were termed "imperialists" by the United States when their respective
governments began to explore the possibility of unification with
Chile in a renewed ABC.

There is an old saying in the Argentinian police: when you see
someone shouting "Catch the thief!" in the street, first of all catch
the one who is shouting. You can bet ten to one that you have caught
the thief.

It applies here.
