Writes Tony:
>I did argue that we should not give it centrality in the
>process of imperialism (Nestor's definition) ...
>Once again, I'm not just trying to be rude. But your idea of
>imperialism needs quite a lot of expansion and redefinition.
Damn.
I started a notebook of everyone's definition of imperialism. I was getting
to where I could understand the dialogues involving Tony and Rob, (not
Julien) and I even inferred a pretty good definition from Nestor.
So when Tahir answered Tony who answered Rob, and Nestor answered all I
could track definition T1 in conversations involving definition T2 x R2, and
then definition N's response. (No use trying to nail down any J1
definitions.)
NOW I find the definitions have shifted again, and apparently there are even
MORE definitions from other players, and of course no two marxists share the
same definition. The capitalists find definitions to be only a tool of
oppression so it's not so important to them to have any meanings, just
profit. And since it now seems that Tony did not understand Nestor's
definition (or was it Tahir's? No... Rob's?) all that was said on both sides
is no longer applicable.
Since my definition of imperialism is from a dictionary, and therefore
tainted by a Global Capitalist slant -- particularly since the dictionary
was sold, not given away -- it is useless. I now almost think we should ban
the use of the word altogether on grounds that it does not exist.
Perhaps we could use a phrase as kind of code? We could all agree that the
phrase "being very naughty" is what we mean by most imperialism, except of
course for Chinese imperialism which would go by the code "Being less
naughty than America but more naughty than Cuba." We of course cannot use
"naughty" in the same sentence with Russia, since they never were .. er ...
are .... will be(?) "naughty" by definition.
Anyway, I am either going to have to amalgamate my notebook entries and come
up with a twenty-two word phrase for imperialism, replete with T1s and T2s
and N1s, or I am going to have to toss the notebook away.
Or perhaps I could send it to East Timor, they will have time to work on it.
Tom
(once again preparing an "acceptation" rant)
