Okay, I've merged the entirety of master over into 0.8 - I really didn't want to cherrypick all 420 (!) of the recent commits. I didn't see any recent changes that should absolutely not go into 0.8, so if anyone thinks something should be reverted in the release branch, please tell me.
If we stick to the release date of April 24, this leaves us 3 weeks to iron out as many bugs as we can.
