Oh yeah, one more thing I forgot to mention - I used to clean the
distributor cap terminals/contacts/ whatever the stupid things are up inside
the cap.  Come to find out that once the corrosion appears on the terminals
and is significant, the metal has undergone a change in chemistry and
resists current significantly higher than a new cap.  Replace the cap and
full power is restored (along with more horsepower) and it's dramatic.  Not
bad for a $20 fix.

Are you getting any spark? Are you getting a strong enough spark? First
thing I would try after checking for spark would be to pull the distributor
cap off and scrape the slag off the contacts/terminals (whatever you would
like to call them) Then see if it's strating any better. I don't remember
who cleared this up for me, but someone said that the gurguling sound is the
fuel trying to ignite at a location other than TDC.

I had a similar problem, and ended up getting a MSD setup.
