hi,

ive been looking around lately for a cat back system for my 91 crx w/ b16. currently i just have the stock system hooked up till i get a new one, but im looking for some opinions on the bolt on cat back systems that you have on your cars right now. ive been looking at thermal r&d for a good throaty sound. ive heard its loud, but ive never heard it myself. im trying to keep my exhaust sound at close to stock as possible, but then again, id like to be able to hear it roar. im not into the rice sound or anything like that. i also have a dc 4-1 header bolted on too. my plan is to: most likely get the thermal exhaust, self weld a hi flow race muffler where the cat goes, and hook the rest of it up normal. either that or a pipe in place of the cat. any opinions on the thermal system would be greatly appreciated, along with any other setups you all have. im up for anything.

regards,
chris

I went down to a local muffler shoppe and had them weld on my current muffler and exhaust tip.  They used the stock pipe from the cat and then welded and mandrel bent a section of pipe to fit the muffler.  They used the stock hangers too.  The muffler is described on the invoice as a "Bullet Stainless Steel Muffler".  It has a very nice mellow tone and when I romp on the the throttle, it still keeps it's mellow tone.  It's not loud and raspy.

Even when I did the DC header and Random Tech cat installation, it still kept it's mellow tone.  It seems to provide the proper back pressure as I have not seen a loss in performance or MPG. I had it installed in 1999 shortly after I installed my body kit and picked it up from the paint shoppe.

I paid about $145 (USD) which included everything (muffler, my choice of tip and the welding/labor...).
