Depending on where you live you might want to check into whether you can remove your cat for street use... I run the thermal classic cat-back on my CSP CRX and it performs wonderfully, though it is a bit loud both on the throttle and at cruise. Since the car is dedicated to autocross/track use I replaced the cat with a pipe and it changed the sound (and smell) of the car quite a bit. The car is distinctly louder now across the band, and it has a much raspier tone than before. If you are looking to keep your car close to stock sound I would suggest looking at the DC-sports and Mugen (if you can find one) kits. My roommate runs the DC exhaust on his car and compared to the no-cat thermal I run it sounds pretty damn quiet :)

You also need to check with the group that you AutoX/Open Track/Race with (i.e. SCCA, NASA, etc...) to see if removing the stock catalytic converter (even in a State or City that does not require one...) places you in a different group (i.e. modified...).

I did this on one of my past cars (1985 GTi...) and I got bumped into the modified group.  :^\
