Well, let's see if I can even remember everything....

Different rear control arm design and different rear shock mount design on
the lower arm.
'88 had pillar-mounted seatbelts, '89 had them on the door.
'88 had a different number of splines on the input shaft of the tranny and
a smaller flywheel face surface area, causing a need for an entirely
different clutch setup that is not interchangeable with any other year
model CRXs...
The trim (as mentioned before) at the rear edge of the door is narrower on
the '88 CRXs, due to the seatbelts not being integrated into the doors.

There was a great deal of body strengthening stuff not in the '88 model
CRX... The '88s are 125lbs lighter than the '89s due to no side impact
door beams, no additional reinforcement due to the seatbelts being in the
doors vs. on the pillar, etc....

If you want a pure race-only CRX, the '88 model would be the best to start
with.. Prefereably an '88 HF, but even an '88 Si has a significant weight
advantage over the later model CRX's. My '91 Si with a ZC in it porked
in at 2270lbs with a full interior and full tank of gas...My '88 Si, with
a JR SC on it, and JUST removal of the interior plastic pieces was only
2064lbs, with a full tank of gas as well.
