More HP, 108 vs. 102 ('89 vs. '88)
The '88 has a slightly different rear suspension geometry which has a bit of
passive steer built into it. The Honda engineers found this a little too
entertaining for Joe Shmo everyday driver (Oversteer? What's oversteer?)
and balanced the suspension to something a bit more neutral. Not
incidentally, Toyota had the same change in philosopy, and at about the same
time, with the 1st gen. MR2. Seems Toyota customers were wrapping their
cars around trees. Apparently this is bad for business.
The '88 rear dampers fit inside the rear, lower transverse links, where as
on the '89, the dampers have a "U" connector on the bottom end which fits
around a more slender, forged lower transverse link.
