Hi Carol, hi all,

while talking to IT recruiters, I got impression that they estimate about 10% of IT
jobs are never advertised in
Auckland, about 30% in Wellington, and about 80% in Christchurch.

Part of the problem is that there is no weekly publication to advertise jobs in (AKL
has Computerworld, WEL InfoTech)

Fact is, IT job market in CHC does not exist. In this kind of environments, it matter
far less what you know, then who
you know. This is unhealthy situation for the industry to be in.

"We" are letting people like this get away on daily basis - usually without media
attention. One of the saddest cases
personally was my friend from Canada, one of the core team that designed US GPS
satellite systems, who was unable to get
a __INTERVIEW__ in one internationally known CHC company that is heavy user of GPS
technology...

So what can we do? In the spirit of "Ask not that your industry can do for you"...

I am proposing to create a "CHC-IT" weekly email newsletter - it would contain
information about IT events and
non-events in CHC in past 7 days, (yes, including statistics from Friday's BBQ :-) and
at the same time serve as the
place where job seekers would be able to present there skills. Basically, I would just
put together all the info sent to
me (events, job adds, articles, job seeker summaries, etc...) maybe add a little, and
compose an email that will be sent
to all subscribers.

Obviously, this will be possible only if there are people out there interested in
CONTRIBUTING information, as well as
RECEIVING it.

If I get at least 20 subscriptions, this is what I'll do.

Needless to say, all suggestions are more then welcome.

Cheers,

Yours, Andrej Falout, http://falout.org/disclaimer.html
