This is an issue only with CSGO and the same branch games, such as L4D2 on which engine this game is built on. TF2 and CSS doesn't have motds that are overwritten during update.

Why is it when the server launches and the script checks for server updates, the MOTD.TXT file gets 'replaced' without warning? This has been a nuance since CS:CZ and we found the only work around to prevent this file from getting overwritten by an 'update' is to add the following line into our server.cfg file (or another file the server.cfg in case they decided to overwrite this file in a future update, exec csgo_server.cfg).

put this in the server.cfg or in csgo_server.cfg (if you have one)
motdfile "kw-motd.txt"

This is to alert all serverops to check their MOTD files due to them being reverted back to stock from a recent update as we have just discovered on our two servers.

Best Regards,
Krillin
