Is the basic answer here that this usage is not supported?
And if you want to do something like this anyway (avoid multiple srcds
installations to save disc space or what ever) you can cook up schemes
with symlinks or similar?

I'm using in this situation symlinks. Maybe your solution is better
than mine.
