During the recent legislative session, the Texas legislature approved an increase in grant funding. For 2010, the program is funded at $7.4 million; up from $5.65 million in SFY2009. The Loan Star Libraries grant program provides direct grants-in-aid to public libraries that are members of the Texas Library System. Since 2002, the Texas Legislature has made it possible to distribute monies to Texas public libraries. Public libraries can use these funds to extend hours, purchase collections and equipment, and provide educational programming. All legally established public libraries in Texas that meet the Minimum Standards for Accreditation of Public Libraries in the State Library System as set forth in the Library System Act <http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/pubs/libsysact/lsysact.html> are eligible to receive grant funding under this program. <http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/LibraryDevelopments/~4/CF02CQ-ouWw> Plinkit Wins National Award <http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/LibraryDevelopments/~3/MmtP6aDOvAM/> Posted: 03 Sep 2009 11:02 AM PDT The Plinkit Collaborative has been awarded a 2009 Digital Government Achievement Award from The Center for Digital Government in the government-to-government category for its work on the Plinkit <http://www.plinkit.org> project. logo_green <http://texas.plinkit.org> The Center for Digital Government <http://www.centerdigitalgov.com> is a national research and advisory institute on information technology policies and best practices in state and local government.
