Some slick new videos
<http://www.proquestk12.com/demo/10/eLibrary/1/1.shtml> are available
from ProQuest on eLibrary, one of the TexShare databases. eLibrary is
one of those interfaces that I think works so well for the public
library environment. It's easy to use, contains a ton of topics,
kid-friendly and has all kinds of tools for users to save their
searches, make slideshows, search and store links to media, create
webpages and many other cool features.

Training video segments include Introduction & Quick Tips, Searching,
Tools and using the My eLibrary features, many of which I just described
above.

These videos are also available for download, but be aware that they are
in FLV format and you may also need to download the player that's linked
with it.

Do you want your library featured in a video?

As part of the Gates Foundation's Opportunity Online Broadband Grant
Program
<http://www.gatesfoundation.org/press-releases/Pages/opportunity-online-
library-upgrade-grants-090716.aspx> and the upcoming Fall 2009 Texas
Summits that TSLAC is hosting, we're inviting libraries to share stories
about how patrons are using the internet and the ever-growing variety of
applications that require higher speeds of connectivity. We're hoping
to provide viewers with a blend of experiences related to the following:

* How broadband helps level the playing field for all people

* Expanding role of broadband in libraries in meeting community needs

* How lack of broadband can affect e-services the community wants the
library to provide

* How the library's broadband access is utilized by students, small
business owners, job seekers, and others to enrich their lives

A video was recently produced to give you some ideas of the types of
stories we're looking for.

View other videos from the Arkansas summit

Share your story by filling in this online form, here
<http://www.opportunityonline.org/snapshots/texas/_ShareYourStory.aspx>
.

We have already heard great stories of how patrons are using the
library's high-speed connection to complete online coursework, find
business opportunities, communicate with relatives stationed overseas,
or start a new career, but we want more stories!

The video will be used during the Opportunity Online Summits here in
Texas to build support among decision-makers by showing the varied roles
that libraries play and how a high-speed broadband connection is vital
to ensuring that every Texas community can bring a world of resources to
its citizens through the library.
